This picture is of my son, Joey, who is finally home from the military. He finished his 4 years with the Marines and is now working construction instead of putting on his camo and toting a 50 pound pack around. He came to visit when his cousin, Jaeden, was here. She is the little girl in the picture, my niece.
Today is Monday, another pot luck day (6 p.m.). But I had a lot to do before then. We have an anti-bear device on the dumpster, so first thing I went up and opened it back up. I saw some customers on the way and said hello and warned them that the garbage truck will be coming on Wednesday morning to pick up, and that they would have to move their cars, etc. the night before. The garbage truck has been coming too early for us and he said he would arrive later this time. I hope so.
I ate some cereal, fed Buddy-our shepherd, and then went down to the beach to talk with people. It was a good thing I had the telephone with me because we got a lot of calls. John's dad died Saturday night and there are a lot of people calling with their sympathies. We sure have a lot of friends and that is wonderful. I bet I spent at least half the day on the telephone.
A customer said today that we sure have done a lot with the place since we bought it. They had been coming for awhile, and said that its also just not the resort itself, but us (John & me) who make the vacation experience so worthwhile. That was really nice. John is more the people person-he loves to talk for hours and loves to go on and plan outings with the customers. I am more happy cleaning, putting stuff away, working on the computer or just listening to customers. I guess that means that I am John's ying to his yang - or that we are great for each other. Its been working for 10 years, so it must be good.
The neighbor's dog has discovered that our resort is a lot of fun. It is a miniature chihuahua with long hair. His name is Jackson and he was down at the beach and running around all morning. I ended up putting a leash on him and walking him home. All the surrounding neighbor's dogs seem to like it here. There are kids, other dogs, action, food, you name it. The neighbor said she is looking for a good home for him. He is 9 mos. old and not fixed but is a pure breed. I had a nice talk with her and invited her to the pot luck. She didn't come but it was still nice to talk with her. She and her husband and son have been renting up the hill from our resort since November and I've only spoken with her once since. I guess we've both been very busy.
I posted on our Facebook page that we would need someone to watch the resort on Sunday so we could go to John's dad's memorial service. My brother and family have decided to come up to do so. That will enable me to go to the memorial too, which I think is VERY important. I've had to stay home through all this and the fact that Bud is gone, seems surreal. I'm sure it will hit me when I get there on Sunday.
In the evening I took up the garbage and closed up the dumpster again with the anti-bear device. Then I put on my swimming suit and jumped in the lake. The water felt great. I wondered why I hadn't gone swimming earlier. It got up to 90 today. If it gets this hot tomorrow, I sure will.
Since no one has come into the lodge in awhile, I guess I will close up for the night and go to bed earlier than normal. This heat sure wears me out.
