36 Day of 365 of What it is Like to Run a Resort

Another Friday just blew by. It seems like I just rolled out of bed.

We had people stopping in the lodge all day. Mostly it was because they had to pay for their week, which is a very good thing. Some wanted to use our Wi-Fi, others just wanted to return things or borrow things. Someone even played the piano for awhile. We love that!

Our niece, Jaeden, had to go home today so I drove her half way to meet my brother in Manitowish Waters at the Rustic Roadhouse. She didn't want to leave and begged to go swimming one more time before she left. So she got on her swimming suit in record time and went swimming for about 10 minutes before we had to leave.

Some customers got a campfire going early today and kept it going for awhile. It rained until around 11:00 a.m. and then they built the fire, cooked marshmallows after lunch and then just let it go.

There was a lot of swimming today, even though it rained for half of it. When the sun came out, the beach was packed.

John went down to the beach and turned over a lot of the kayaks because they were so full of rain. Some of the customers helped him to do this since there are over 10 kayaks and there are also canoes, sail boat, and a paddle boat. We didn't bail out any of the motor boats yet but will do that tomorrow. Everything was wet and humid this afternoon. The customers who left their towels on the line are going to have to pack them wet tomorrow. It was just too humid for them to dry.

Last night we had a tremendous thunder crack very close to the resort. Everyone we spoke to said they woke up because of it. It was so close that I turned on the radio and listened to it for awhile waiting for a weather alert. If there was a tornado sighting, we wouldn't hear the siren out here. So I have a weather radio, scanner and headphone radio to cover all the bases. Last night I turned on the headphone radio. If we got severe weather or a tornado out here, we would have to notify everyone to get into our basement. So we have to be very prepared. Its a good thing I am a very light sleeper and that I am concerned about this. Hopefully my watchfulness will relieve customer's concerns.

As I type this, I can hear more thunder rolling in the distance. So I will check the weather one more time before turning in. I don't want to miss any severe weather alerts.
