I got up early and went to church. I had to find someone to take my place for next weekend's Eucharistic Minister for me. Kathy said she would because her knee was hurting something awful and would be better next weekend. So that worked out and I put on the necklace with the big circle on it with a picture of the communion bread. I stood at the door and greeted people and talked to some. I always like this part of being a Eucharistic Minister - the meeting people at the door and saying, good morning to them.
After church I went grocery shopping and made sure to pick up a Milwaukee Journal for John. I sat and read a little of my quilting magazine I had purchased as I waited for the fishermen in the Ironwood II cabin to leave. They had been here for 3 nights and were leaving today, with a bunch of new fishermen arriving today also. So I would have to kick it in gear and get the cabin cleaned as soon as possible.
What I needed was caffeine so I drank a full glass of diet mountain dew, my favorite caffeinated choice. Then the fishermen came in and paid so they could check out. That was my cue. I was off. I loaded up the van with the cleaning supplies and some quilts I needed to wash in the front-loading washer that is in the Ironwood II cabin.
The cabin was pretty messy. There was a lot of dirt all over the floor and the bathrooms needed a lot of work. One of the guys forgot all his stuff in the bathroom cabinet. So soon, I imagine, I will be mailing out a watch, prescriptions and personal items. Three hours later I was finished and it was just in time. The new customers had just pulled in about 15 minutes earlier.
When I went out to the van to start putting some items into it, I saw Buddy was lying outside. I carefully lifted him into the minivan so he could be out of the rain. He laid down inside to wait for me to be finished. He is such a good dog. I will really miss him. Last night he pooped twice in the house again though and I will not miss that.
As I was driving our minivan full of cleaning supplies back to the lodge, John was heading up on his ATV to do a garbage and recycling run. It was pouring rain outside so he had his large rain coat with hood on. Buddy was still in the van as I pulled up and unloaded all the cleaning supplies. When I was done, he still hadn't jumped out so I lifted him out carefully. He turned and smiled, like only dogs can, at me when he was out as if to say thank you.
About an hour later I was eating lunch at 4:00 p.m. when another fisherman arrived. He sat and had a couple beers while we talked and watched football for awhile. Then he went to the new Ironwood II cabin to meet up with the rest of his buddies who had arrived earlier.
John and I were sitting watching football in the living room about an hour later. We were just contemplating getting a bowl of ice cream when the whole group of fishermen came in to watch the Packer game. The telephone rang at the same time and it was my son, who was wondering if I was wearing the Matthews jersey he had bought me for my birthday. Of course I was.
The guys, 6 in all, watched the game with us until 10:45 p.m or so. They had a bunch of drinks, ate all the food I had put out, and bobbed and weaved their way back to their cabin. They had a lot of fun and since they didn't have to drive anywhere, they maybe had a little too much fun.
It was a good day.
