Friday, October 15, 2010.

This picture is of a vacuum cleaner bag after I've gone through it (yuck). We had a customer lose a wedding ring. While vacuuming her cabin yesterday, I heard a "clink". So I tore apart the bag and looked. I found a back of an earring, penny and a metal fragment that was probably the sound's originator. I was sad I couldn't find her ring for her.

We had customers leave today. For now we are down to one cabin. I said goodbye to them and drove into town. I had to drop off the car for an oil change and check of what the heck that noise was from kind of check. It was going to take awhile so I walked to the Turtle River Trading tackle shop and talked to Nancy and her son.

We are thinking of having a fishing tournament for people with disabilities next fall. So I wanted to ask Nancy her thoughts on the matter. She had a lot of advice and her son did too. We talked for a little while, I looked around her store, and then I went to Aunt Esther's Attic. I bought 2 sweaters and a Halloween decoration.

Then I went to the library. I spent some time there looking at the new Martha Stewart Halloween magazine. I called Mercer Rentals to ask how the car was coming. They hadn't started on it yet because of an emergency with some other vehicle. So I then went to the car and dropped off my purchases and then walked down to the resale shop. John picked me up there because the car would take too long.

We were on our way home when Ken of Mercer Rentals called to say the back left tire had the steel coming out of it and the steel had even ripped open his finger it was so bad. The back left was where I had heard the noise yesterday. He also said the rear of the car was not aligned and that it was wearing the tires in a bad way. We will get 2 new tires from him and then he said that we never could have made it to Duluth tomorrow on those tires. So he saved our lives. Then Ken worked on the car until 6:30 p.m. to make sure it would be ready for us. He is amazing and wonderful. I would recommend Mercer Rentals to anyone. He worked on that car all day.

We are planning on going to Duluth on Sunday. I am taking my husband out on a date to see Red Green. That should be fun.

I got home with John and then cleaned the Aspen cabin. Our customers are supposed to arrive around 7:30 p.m. It was very mild out today so I opened all the windows and aired the cabin out too. That always helps. I washed down every square inch of the kitchen with bleach cleaner, moved and vacuumed under furniture and did a great job with everything else too. That way next time I hopefully won't have to work as hard. We'll see.

I sewed a little after that but kept getting interrupted. When I get interrupted, I usually do something wrong when I restart sewing. Of course that happened and I had to rip out two seams.

The new customers called on the telephone at around 7 p.m. They asked if we were open and if it was okay if they unpacked. I went upstairs and saw that the lodge lights were off as well as the deck lights. So that meant it looked like we were closed. John was so tired he didn't even notice and since I was downstairs in the girl cave sewing, I didn't notice either.

John totally closed down Balsam, Birch, Hemlock and Cedar today. He worked very hard all day and they are finally all done. Now I have to do all the laundry in them. I did two loads of laundry today the way it was. Its about that time of year again when laundry will be my life.

I showed the new customers how to start the boat motor, showed them the lake map and then served them a drink. They went back to their cabin after that and spent the rest of the night there. They seem like nice people and I hope they catch some fish tomorrow. They said they were going out fishing early so I had to show them the boat in the dark. I had a good flashlight so it was fine.

It takes John about 10 minutes or so to put on his shoes because he has lace-up braces for his ankles too. So rather than have our customers wait for him, I just showed them. The boats are very easy to use and I made the customer get in the boat to show him the motor. I found that if people are the ones who do the demonstration with me pointing things out, that they remember better. He seemed confident that he wouldn't have any trouble tomorrow.

All in all it was a good day.
