Today is my birthday - I'm 46 now - in my late 40's but that doesn't bother me. I love birthdays. This Saturday I don't have to clean any cabin. That's nice. Tomorrow we will have to clean 3 though so I will enjoy this day of respite.
It's funny that John didn't get me a card but that doesn't bother me. My mother-in-law got me 2 cook books, which I love, and I have been enjoying. She knows I love cooking. Our friends who are here this weekend bought me a picture frame that has 4 frames attached and each frame has a picture of our resort in a different season. They also got me a purse holder. I had admired hers the year before. Sandra bought it in Spain - so that is even a more impressive gift. It's made of brass and one end rests on the table top the other end curves around under the table with a hook, and you hang your purse from it. It is so cool. We all gave John a hard time that our friends bought me birthday presents and he didn't even get me a card. We all know I don't care about that but I used his "guilt" to my advantage.
John is in the picture above as he is trying to disconnect the raft. It is the end of the season. He said he might have to go swimming tomorrow to get it disconnected. The water is colder than 55 degrees - brrr.
We decided to go hiking and kayaking today. John, Sandra and I went on a long hike around the beautiful woods. The sun was shining and it was really warm. Leaves were littered on the evergreens like Christmas ornaments and the sun was glistening on the lake.
After I made spaghetti, salad and French bread for lunch, we went kayaking. John said he would paddle me around so I would be able to just sit there and enjoy the day. We left from the resort and went up the Turtle River to Oxbow lake. There Sandra and I got out of the kayaks, loaded one kayak in our minivan that was waiting, and went home. John had my cell phone and he called for us to pick him up later down river.
The kayak trip was beautiful on the river. The above picture of the couple kayaking is of Brad and Sandra. The water was very high, which is something we hardly ever see. It was warm, there was very little wind and I didn't even have to lift a paddle. I enjoyed it so much that I thanked John again and again how nice it was that I didn't have to lift a paddle. I could get used to that.
John, Don and Brad called when they got to Cramer Lake Road. I picked them up and we went home. We got ready for dinner and left around 7 p.m. I wanted to go to the Pines, but they were so busy it would take about an hour to get a table. So we drove up to a restaurant we wanted to try for 2 or more years - Skylawn. It was very good and is a steak joint. The food was great and they brought out a cupcake with a candle on it for my birthday. Everybody sang to me. That was fun.
It was a good day.
