90 of 365 of What it is Like to Run a Resort

Tuesday, October 12, 2010.

I was sewing in the basement most of the day. I am making a Christmas present for my friend, Cindy. I showed her the fabric but I changed my mind about the pattern. I saw a pattern that is called the friendship star, so I'm using that.

The rainbow appeared when I walked outside for a little while because I heard thunder. I had to look to see where the thunder was coming from because it was still sunny outside. There was the rainbow. I ran upstairs, got my camera and took a few shots. They turned out good.

Earlier in the day I raked quite a bit too. Our basketball court was loaded with pine needles and leaves. I hauled some to the campfire ring and lit them up. It was a little windier than I liked, so I sat and watched it. Our dog, Senna, came over to me and watched the smoke too. She must have gotten bored with John.

John was up at the old log cabins today preparing them for the winter. This will take him days. He takes his air compressor up with him and blows water out of the pipes. First he disconnects the pipes, of course. No, really first is he shuts off the water, second he disconnects some parts of the old pipes and then he blows the water out. He also has to reach into the basin of the toilet tank and bowl and get as much water out as he can with a sponge. Then he lets it sit for a couple days. Then he pours RV anti-freeze into the basin and tank to make sure it doesn't freeze. After that he places some mouse poison and traps around the walls.

I went into the Hemlock cabin and stripped all the laundry out of that log cabin. I had the laundry going while I sewed. I try to take everything out that can be washed. Sometimes that is a royal pain, but it has to be done. Hemlock has a lot of cloth curtains which have to be ironed in the spring. It also has some batik duvet covers I made. Those have to be washed separately in a non-agitating washing machine. So when I clean Ironwood II tomorrow, I will wash them in there. That stackable washer/dryer has a tumble basin, with no center agitator. That will be perfect.

John hauled a load of leaves away for me and put them on his cross country ski trail. The leaves will hide the rocks and roots better. I don't know why he is doing this since we will be gone this winter, but who knows.

At 6:30 p.m. I went to my once monthly writers group at "Your Art Studio". It was so much fun I didn't want to leave. I am learning a lot. I was there until after 9 p.m. and when I got home the bar was empty and John was relaxing watching television.

I checked e-mails, Facebook, and then went to bed. It was a good day.
