The picture is of our Spina Bifida group playing wheelchair basketball this last Sept. 9th. Our basketball court has a special coating on the asphalt that makes it easier to play wheelchair basketball. They had a lot of fun and their skills at maneuvering their chairs were amazing.
Today I finished sewing some fall placemats for our dining table. I had been working on them for days. While I was in the basement I also did 3 loads of laundry.
Then I started cleaning our house. We were going to have guests this weekend and I wanted our bathroom clean, especially. So I cleaned that room first. Then I vacuumed, made the guest room bed and baked an apple pie.
I went to the grocery store and did some major shopping. This has become my job and I haven't done a major grocery run in over a month. Most of the time I enjoy this task as I usually have a lot of time to do so. Today I was in a hurry. As it was, I even forgot a couple items - vanilla ice cream for the pie. How could I forget that?
I got home and hurriedly put the groceries away so I could take a shower before the guests arrived. Just when I finished, we had 2 customers come into the lodge for kiddy cocktails. I hadn't made any of these drinks for about a month so that was fun. Another customer arrived to check in while we were in the lodge so that was good timing too. The customers who I served the kiddy cocktails to were actually, believe it or not, swimming yesterday. They are our record holders for the latest swim since we've owned the resort. Congratulations, Curt and Evan!
John told them today that he might have to take a swim to get the raft taken out of the swimming area for the winter. They were disappointed and said they might have to go back in then. Tomorrow we will see. It got up to 77 degrees today so the water warmed up a little too, which will help.
John worked on the plumbing of the Balsam lodge cabin again. He also has been doing a lot of other work around here in between working on that cabin, but it seems to have taken a week to get it finished. He's still not done.
John and a friend, Don, went kayaking up stream today. They were out for 2 hours and when they got back the sun was setting. The water was like glass and the pink color of the setting sun was amazing. They had a great paddle.
Our caretaker, Dave, arrived with his family today. His kids and ex-wife will be staying in a cabin with him until Monday. He has some very cute boys. Dave's sister came along too. They are a very nice group and we will be getting to know them better over the weekend. They stopped by right before we were going to go out for dinner. So we didn't talk long.
We went out to the Aberdeen Lodge for Friday fish fry. I had the walleye sandwich and 2 others joined me in ordering the same. John and Don ordered the haddock fish fry. Everything was good. Our friends Brad and Sandra, who are up for the weekend, ran into some friends at the restaurant. This was weird because they are all from the Madison area and here they were 4 hours away. It was nice to meet their friends.
We got back to the lodge and we met Brad/Sandra's new springer spaniel, Waters. He is almost all white but has one big liver spot on each his sides. He is also much smaller than most springers. He wanted me to pet him right away and that made me like him right off the batt. He's a cutie.
We had some of my home made apple pie and then we all retired for the evening. Tomorrow is my birthday and I don't think John got me anything because I told him that the stuff I bought from our quilt retreat will be my present. Hopefully he got me a card though. We'll see.
It was a good day.
