Here's another picture of the rainbow that was on our lake yesterday. It was so awesome to see this! Nature is amazing.
Yesterday started out with some customers coming into the lodge for coffee for their fishing trip. They were heading to Long Lake to put in at the boat landing there. We don't charge for coffee so this guy asked for a to-go cup. That was funny. We don't have to go anything. I gave him a hard time and then lent him one of our insulated mugs with a cover, after I filled it up for him.
It was quiet at the resort after they left. So I took advantage of the situation and sewed on quilt squares for awhile.
John worked at the Hemlock and Balsam cabins again. He is getting them ready for winter and that takes quite awhile. He also got the recycling out of the lodge, tended bar for the customers in the evening and helped me with laundry in the basement whenever he would go through.
After I sewed awhile, I cleaned the Ironwood cabin. Even though the cabin was left fairly clean, I still have to wipe down every surface with bleach, clean the bathrooms completely and wash the floors. If I was renting a cabin, I would want it spotless when I walked in. So that's the way I have the cabins when I clean them. It took me three hours of non-stop cleaning. Can you say, "exhausted"?
When I was finished, I couldn't pull out of the cabin's parking area because the fishermen were back and they blocked me in. I didn't care because I wouldn't need the cleaning van until tomorrow when I would clean Spruce. I pulled the quilted duvet covers out of the dryer in Ironwood and hung them out on the line to dry. They look very pretty and I like to look at them out of the window on the line.
I made sloppy joe's for dinner, and then when I had just enough energy to get up and move, I went grocery shopping. This was probably a mistake because I was so tired. I couldn't even think straight when I got to the store. I had to keep going back to aisles I had passed up to get things I forgot. I saw the mail lady, Inger, at the store and it was nice to see her somewhere besides her car. She is a beautiful lady and I wish I had hair like her's. Its full, red, curly and half way down her back.
I finally made it home, put the groceries away, and then the bar started filling up with customers. John took over and I went downstairs to sew for awhile again. Once I get started on a sewing project I like, I want to continue it until its finished. But I've been too busy to do so. It's an easy pattern so it shouldn't take me too long and hopefully I'll be finished with it before Christmas.
I came back upstairs around 9 p.m. and the party was going strong. I had a glass of red wine with the fishermen and they brought in some cheese and sausage. They also brought in some carrot cake. That was a wonderful treat.
Tomorrow this group will leave so they were trying to get rid of some of their leftovers. We don't mind at all and, in fact, would rather customers leave their left over food items than throw them away. That is if the food is okay. We don't want a half eaten sandwich or anything like that. A half a bag of potatoes though is great, etc. A lot of times customers don't like to take home their food items. Most of the time it is because they don't have any more room in their car or don't have a cooler. We understand and try to tell everyone not to throw out food that's good - like a stick of unopened butter, etc. We'll make good use of it.
So tonight there was a bar counter full of good snacks. We ate, talked, laughed and watched college football. It was a good day.
