The attached picture is of Red Green, aka Steven Smith, of the Red Green Show that is on PBS. I took John, my husband, on a date on Sunday to see him. We had a great time.
Tuesday morning I awoke early, fed the dogs, took them for a walk, and then loaded them in my new car. It is a Lincoln. The car was John's dad's, and we bought it from his mom. It is a 2004, and I am now riding in style. I love it.
I dropped off Riley, the golden retriever we were checking out, at his owners. I found the address very easily and then headed on my way toward home. We had tried out Riley for a couple of days at John's mom's house. She is looking for a dog that likes attention, and is more of a companion. Riley fit the bill. Now all we have to do is wait for Karen, his owner, to give him up. She will be moving to Sedona, AZ, and can't have a dog there. So she had been looking for a new home for him. I think she found it.
I stopped about a couple hours into my trip to let the dogs out. Buddy had to be carried out of the car, which is not a little feat. He is 105 pounds. He could barely walk but after he tried walking around a little while, he got better at it. I had to lift him back into the car when they were finished. Yikes, he was heavy. I am not looking forward to the time when we have to put him down. He was with me before I moved here. He was my guard dog when I was a single mom and living alone in Minocqua. He and I have been through a lot together - and I will greatly miss him.
I got home and unpacked a little. I left both the back doors open for Buddy to get out. He couldn't so I lifted him out again. He doesn't like to be lifted and yipes and cries, but when he is on the ground, he is okay. He's such a big baby.
The customers had arrived about an hour before us. I talked to them a little while and they gave us some pictures they had taken the summer before. That was nice. They went out fishing for awhile. It was sunny and breezy but its supposed to rain tonight. Their cabin had been cleaned earlier and before we left to go to Door County, I had turned everything on in the cabin and left them a note too. So everything seems to have worked out fine.
Later, around 9:30 p.m. it started raining, according to Dave, our caretaker. He came into the lodge to say hello and say what work he did when we were gone. We had a nice talk until I had to close up the bar for the night. His daughter, Sophia, had recommended him to us for watching the resort for the winter. That will work out great. One of the things he did was weld our kayak trailer back together. It had fallen apart on a trip to pick up some of our customers who were kayaking. So that saved us some money right there, and we can now use our trailer again.
Sophia, his daughter, started a blog now about what its like to be a young mother. It was very good and I'm looking forward to reading it again soon.
