John and I were up pretty late last night. He was watching sports & comedies, I was blogging and e-mailing, etc. So we got up late - around 9 a.m. He slept until 10 a.m. actually and I got up at 8:45 a.m. Anyway we got a late start.
The picture is of a pier that broke on our neighbor's property. John tried to see if he could fix it today, but the professionals are needed. John said the neighbors (Ash Lodge owners) tried to use a power winch to pull it up onto shore. When the wheels of the pier hit an obstruction, probably a rock, they didn't stop the winch. So now they have a bent and broken pier. So John called Mercer Rentals. They can fix anything and they will this time too.
John started shutting down the non-winterized cabins today. He turned off the water at the pump house, took the air compressor up to the cabins and blew water out of some of the pipes. He was singing and happy because he didn't have to put off that job any longer. We finally heard from the State water testing and our water test came back perfect. So we didn't have to send in another sample (never had to either), so John could then shut off the cabins and turn off the water, etc. He was very happy about that.
I finished cleaning Spruce and then took all the supplies up to Cedar and cleaned that cabin too. Just when I had finished it, they arrived. I had just come into the house and hadn't even changed out of my cleaning clothes when they arrived - a father and son - to do some fishing.
I could see John working on the Balsam cabin's plumbing, so I just yelled up to him that our customers, Curt and his son, Evan, needed a boat right away. The boats have become his job. I could get a boat bailed, prepared and ready for a customer if I had to, but John usually prefers that he do it. He yelled back that he would be right there and he was. Within a half hour the customers were walking down to the pier with their fishing stuff. They couldn't wait to get on the lake.
I made a big cup of home made tomato soup for John and he finished it before we noticed the customers going down to get their boat. So that was good timing.
It was already 3 p.m. when I was finished cleaning the cabins so then I decided to sew. I am working on a Halloween/Thanksgiving set of placemats for the lodge. Soon enough it was 5:45 p.m. and it was time to get ready for dinner.
We were waiting for our part-time neighbors, Bobby and his dad, Wyatt. They are up for a week (from Indiana) to shut down their rental cabin, "Secluded Sanctuary". We all went out for dinner at Ruggers for their all you can eat pizza for $6.50. We waited an hour and a half for our pizzas, which was unusual, but they were very good.
Bobby & Wyatt came into the lodge when we got home and we all talked for awhile. Keeping up with friends is very difficult in this business. We get so caught up with our work here that sometimes we forget how important just going out to dinner with friends can be. It was nice to catch up with them.
The last time we were at Ruggers we saw a lot of locals. This time I saw only one local I recognized. Maybe they heard that tonight they would be slow in the kitchen. I wish they would have let me know.
So now John is watching sports or baseball or something. I will get ready for bed. It was a good day.
