Finally I'm all caught up on the blogs. I got really behind when it came time to get ready for the retreat and then cleaned up. The retreat sure took a lot of my time.
Today was the first day in YEARS that I felt completely overwhelmed by all the work that needs to be done. I used to feel that way when I first moved here and started working here. The duties have, over the years, become easier as time went by. But today I decided to spend some time at my local quilt guild, sewing with the ladies, and then wham. I realized how much work had to be done at home.
When I got home from sewing for a few hours, it was 70 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. That meant it was time to take advantage of the mild weather and rake, rake and rake. I spent hours raking and got a lot done, but then, wham again. I realized that I needed to get started on the Ironwood Cabin. We were going to have customers arrive for that cabin tomorrow evening and I don't like cleaning cabins at last minute. So after raking for hours, I went to the Ironwood cabin and started cleaning.
After I started, I couldn't stop. Did you ever feel so tired that you were on auto-pilot? That was me. I just kept cleaning until I was finished. Before I knew it, it was 6 p.m. and I was pulling out of the Ironwood II's driveway. It was all clean.
I fried up some salmon for us for dinner and made a salad. It was easy and good. After all the pizza, sausage and steak we've been eating the last week, it felt good to have something healthier.
You might ask why I went to the quilt guild to sew if I had so much to do at home. Well there are several reasons. That is the only lady's group that I enjoy. I belong to the church but women there don't socialize very often. I go to the Lioness meetings but I've only been out once after, and the ladies aren't very social towards me there. Most of our customers that we are friends with are not going to be back until next summer and my one very good friend and I haven't been able to hang out together since July 4th. So my schedule is a little lacking in the social department.
The quilt guild meets the 1st and 3rd Thursdays so if I didn't go today, I would have to wait 2 weeks.
So now you understand why I sacrificed my time to go and sew. That is why I felt so overwhelmed by the work that had to be done also.
Another reason for feeling so overwhelmed was that the weather has been very chilly and rainy most days. I really felt the need to rake because the days to do so have been very far and few in between. We have to take advantage of those days when we can.
John worked very hard today too. He pulled out some pier sections, a boat, and worked on plumbing again. He cut up logs, used the air compressor to blow water out of pipes and dug a huge hole so he could reach under a cabin to fix some plumbing. Needless to say we both felt like we were 30 years older than we are tonight.
Our dog, Senna, shown in the picture above, followed us around all day outside. John threw her some rocks in the lake and she was very happy. She will go under the water and retrieve a rock you threw. As long as her feet can touch the bottom, she will dunk her head in and get the rock. She is so funny.
When John threw the rocks for her, it was because he was trying to relocate a huge boulder down by the beach. John didn't like where it was so he moved it with crow bars, steel pipes and other means. He had to throw rocks for Senna to make sure she stayed away from his working area. He didn't want her to get hurt.
So now we sit and watch television. We both got a lot done. It was a good day.
